R&D announces our new line up of Kawasaki Ultra 250X and 260X ECU reprogramming services. The engineering Department at R&D has developed all new ECU programs to allow higher performance levels to be reached for recreational enthusiasts and racers who are interested in more engine horsepower through reprogramming the Factory Kawasaki OEM ECU. R&D’s ECU programs will allow the enjoyment of a raised RPM limit settings, advanced ignition timing, re-calibrated fuel maps all custom tailored to allow the Kawasaki Ultra 250/260 to have snappier throttle response, much better acceleration, pull harder in mid range area’s, and also add to top end speed performance. The Ignition timing in each R&D reprogram is developed to safely maximize horsepower performance with specific fuel octane ratings, type of riding or racing conditions, and also taking into consideration peak RPM and boost levels the Ultra will sustain. There are several recreational and racing performance levels to choose from that work great with the stock 250/260 Supercharger. R&D ECU Programs offered are recreational performance tuned with safe AFR values proven in offshore competition for several years. R&D can also accommodate custom ECU Programs for high performance racing applications where peak horsepower output will require the use of high volume fuel pumps and larger fuel injectors must be used. High performance programs for the Kawasaki 250X/260X are continuously under development and will be announced through periodic updates on the R&D web site, so stay tuned. Custom program files can also be performed to accommodate just about any combination of performance level or type of racing fuel being used. R&D strongly suggests that AFR tuning be periodically verified using Innovate Products LM1 or LC1 Logging Kit also available from R&D. Existing customers who have purchased an R&D Powershot Fuel Control Unit can send their units in to R&D for free upgraded re-programming to allow custom fuel tuning to work with the new ECU Programs. R&D Powershot Fuel Control Units are not required on entry recreational level (R1, R2, or R3) programs. However, custom fuel tuning with the Powershot Fuel Tuner can be an add-on or additional upgrade that is suggested for higher performance applications with Booster Wheels or Camshaft Kits. Fuel tuning or AFR conditions should always be checked and verified as values will always be slightly different from one engine set up to another.
 




Ultra 250 Adjustable Boost Control Valve Kit

The R&D Adjustable Boost Control Valve replaces the unreliable OEM Plastic boost control valve that quite often fails to hold consistent factory recommended boost pressure settings. A leaking and inconsistent boost control valve will cause a 10-30 horsepower loss in performance. The all aluminum constructed High Performance R&D Adjustable Valve offers perfect sealing and precise adjustment for consistent boost pressure control. The valve comes factory preset for 16 pounds boost and is adjustable up to 22 pounds. The valve mounts directly to the OEM location with a billet aluminum adaptor that offers boss locations that can be used to install a boost gauge. For those with a reprogrammed R&D ECU, this is a must have upgrade to allow the ECU to perform to full potential. kit includes all gaskets, hardware and installation instructions.

Ultra 250 Intercooler Temperature Control Upgrade Kit - Now Available

The R&D Ultra 250 Intercooler Temperature Control system was developed to offer an inexpensive complete bolt on kit that will allow the full performance and cooling potential the O.E.M. intercooler has to offer for recreational applications. Intercooler core water temperatures have a range of affect on the supercharged air temperatures that enter into the engine. The Kawasaki Ultra 250 Intercooler operates on a dual line entrance mixture of lake temperature water and hot (140 degree) engine water that enters from the exhaust manifold to the top of the intercooler. R&D has found that bypassing the hot engine cooling water directly outward, and adding an additional intercooler cooling line, there can be a substantial and noticeable increase in low end and midrange power along with reduced detonation. The R&D Intercooler Temperature Control Kit also includes an industry first intercooler pressure relief blowoff valve to keep internal water pressures down to safe O.E.M. pressure ranges. R&D offers a range of machined flow control fittings to allow water volume control tuning for intercooler temperature adjustments for warm lake water and extreme hot air conditions. R&D offers an additional pressure relief blowoff valve kit for high water volume flow rates on higher boost Performer and Stage 1 engine kits. Ultra 250 Temp Sensor Interfacer - Now Available

R&D Performance offers a unique supercharger air temp sensor interfacer which will be necessary on Ultra 250X units with the Stage 3 Engine Kit. The added boost pressure of the R&D 1.05 to 1 and 1.1 to 1 pulley will bring along elevated intake temperatures which can be defused or lowered back down to safe temperatures with the R&D Intercooler Upgrade Kit. However, the air temp sensor is located between the supercharger and the intercooler therefore transmitting a temperature rating that is higher than what is actually entering the engine. The R&D sensor interfacer will keep the engine out of “limp home mode” during a race moto. There have been some Ultra 250X models that will default into “limp home mode” if the charger temperature sensor is peaked prematurely. Any Ultra 250 which has this default occur on long rides on hot (115 degree) days should install the R&D Supercharger Temp Interfacer Kit. The Interfacer is an inexpensive fix for this randomly occurring problem.

Ultra 250 Cylinder Leakdown Test Kit - Now Available

The R&D Cylinder Leakdown Test Kit for four stroke engines is the fastest and most accurate method to test and verify the condition and performance values of a four stroke engines cylinder, pistons, intake, and exhaust valves. Simply find top dead center on the compression stroke of the cylinder and insert the cylinder test kit and inject air into the cylinder. The percentage of leakdown will instantly be displayed on the gauges. Accurately test for cracked or detonated pistons, leaking ring sets, and leaking intake or exhaust valves. The R&D Leakdown Kit is more accurate than Snap-On, Matco, or Mac Test Kits as the R&D second gauge reads in P.S.I. and not a large window range displaying only good, fair, or poor rating. The R&D Kit comes with comprehensive directions that has a calibration chart enclosed that will display leakdown percentage at 100, 90, and 75 P.S.I. ratings. The R&D Leakdown Test Kit is accurate, fast, and efficient. Kits are available in 10 mm and 14 mm threads, and optional adaptors are available.

Universal High Performance, High Volume Fuel Pump Kits - Now Available

The new R&D line up of High Performance Fuel Pumps are “ANY FUEL FRIENDLY”. Yes, the new R&D High Performance Fuel Pumps are 100% E-85 compatible. R&D Fuel Pumps kits are set up specifically to fit the Kawasaki fuel pump housing and are offered in a variety of flow ratings to facilitate from basic low cost replacement to an all out 600 H.P. race machine. All R&D fuel pumps are precision flow rate tested and charted in (LPH) liters per hour. The new R&D 340 Racing Fuel Pump will outperform traditional old school fuel pumps with its internal turbine design by flowing 25 percent more fuel at 43 pounds of fuel pressure. R&D fuel pumps come complete with quick connect terminals necessary to install.

Ultra 250 Anti-Cavitation Cone - Now Available

The R&D Kawasaki Ultra 250X/LX Anti-Cavitation Pump Cone Kit will reduce overall internal pump cavitation within the Kawasaki Ultra 250’s offset reduction/compression nozzle design. The O.E.M. Ultra 250 reduction/compression nozzle is offset 5 degrees, while the O.E.M. pump cone/bearing cap remains straight which causes uneven pressures within the pump and reduction nozzle. The R&D Anti-Cavitation Pump Cone is offset 5 degrees and reshaped to match the O.E.M. reduction nozzle offset promoting even pressures, which will substantially reduce cavitation, increase pump hook up, boost acceleration, and increase top speed performance.

Ultra 250 Blowoff Valve Pressure Adjustment Kit - Now Available

The R&D Kawasaki Ultra 250X Blowoff Valve Pressure Adjustor Kit is just what the doctor ordered for keeping the Ultra 250X’s boost pressure properly adjusted for peak performance. The O.E.M. Kawasaki blowoff valves pressure has an O.E.M. specification setting of 10 P.S.I. After the recommended break-in period has been performed or after 10-20 hours, if poor performance and low peak RPM’s are noticed, use the R&D Blowoff Valve Pressure Adjustor Kit to check and properly adjust the valves blowoff pressure. Some O.E.M. valve settings blowoff prematurely, leaking off and robbing valuable horsepower with low 6-8 P.S.I. settings. The R&D Kit is a necessary tool kit to readjust the blowoff valves pressure settings when using R&D Booster Wheel Pulley Kits. Ultra 250 Cool Air Intake Kit - Now Available

The R&D high performance Air Filter Kit will improve acceleration and top speed performance by increasing air flow and reducing air temperatures that enter directly into the Ultra 250’s air plenum box area. The O.E.M. air plenum box on the Ultra 250 is a great design that will flow plenty of air. However, the air that feeds the plenum box is heated by the engine. R&D has created an easy to install “flat filter” that installs directly in place of the large center access inspection cover located directly under the main glove box. The R&D Flat Air Filter insert will allow unrestricted fresh and cool air to enter the air plenum box area which will add power you can feel and a nice high performance tone. The R&D Performance Filter Kit also features two filters, one for each of the surge and blowoff protection valves. The O.E.M. surge valve recycles compressed hot air back into the air box plenum at idle and under deceleration conditions. The R&D surge and blowoff valve filter kit removes the air recycling hoses which will keep the hot air from entering the air plenum box reducing the engines intake air temperatures. Ultra 250 Exhaust Emission Blockoff Kit - Now Available

The R&D Exhaust Emission Blockoff Kit was developed to block off the O.E.M. exhaust emission ports located in the valve cover that connects to the exhaust ports. The Kawasaki labeled “air suction valve” operates effectively under low speed and cruise RPM ranges allowing air to be pulled from the main air box plenum and into the exhaust ports, which will result in a lower measured emission ratio (cleaner). The air suction valves fiber reed pedals can become heat damaged over time which can cause the valves to leak or back flow hot exhaust gases back out of the valve at sustained W.O.T. (wide open throttle) operations. Leaking air suction valves can result in a melted PVC connector T and poor top speed performance. The R&D Air Suction Blockoff Plate Kit will reduce exhaust gas temperatures, lower exhaust back pressures, improve low and top speed performance, and deliver a more accurate and precise air to fuel ratio for precision high performance tuning accuracy. Ultra 250X Fuel Pump Pressure Regulator Blockoff Fitting - Now Available

R&D offers a Fuel Pump Pressure Regulator Blockoff Fitting Kit which will allow the O.E.M. stock in tank fuel pressure regulator to be removed completely and replaced with a billet part which is necessary when installing an aftermarket externally adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The O.E.M. in tank fuel pressure regulator is fixed to maintain 40-43 pounds of fuel pressure at all times. For high performance applications where horsepower is boosted, it is necessary to install larger flowing fuel injectors and be able to tune the fuel pressure up or down as needed. Most factory race teams are running 65 plus pounds of fuel pressure along with higher flowing fuel injectors and externally adjustable pressure regulators. The R&D Fuel Pressure Blockoff Fitting is the answer to quickly replace and block off the port. The R&D fitting is manufactured to “Deadhead” or block the port solid, however, the fitting is pre-machined and tapped and can be relief drilled to be able to install a Mikuni Super BN Series jet directly into the end of the fitting for a small in tank restrictor jet which may be helpful for fine tuning fuel pressures in high altitude situations where finer tuning of fuel pressure is necessary. R&D Tunable Raising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator

The R&D Tunable Raising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator enables the “raising rate” portion of the fuel pressure to be tuned. With the addition of two volume plates and three jets that change the internal volume and pressure the “raising rate fuel pressure curve” can be manipulated. The regulator comes with a baseline setup, which contains no volume plates or jets. The baseline setup will provide a larger increase in fuel pressure as boost increases. If a lower slope (leaner) is desired, the volume plates and jets can be installed to tune the raising rate fuel pressure. The regulator utilizes a tunable pressure relief port to lower the slope of the curve to dampen pressure transitions. Kit comes complete with a graph page indicating the increase in fuel pressure as boost increases with and without the volume plates and jets installed. Kit is designed to upgrade all existing R&D RRFRP's.

The R&D Universal Fuel Return Line Adaptor Fitting can be installed into the top of any fuel tap assembly by finding a clear area on the top of the fuel tap system large enough to install the fitting. The R&D Autometer Fuel Pressure Gauge Bezel is necessary for adapting and installing the small Autometer fuel pressure gauge into an instrument panel. The R&D Deep Fuel Pickup is designed to maximize fuel volume. The stock fuel pickup is located horizontally in the gas tank three inches above the bottom of the tank. The R&D Powershot is fully adjustable on the fly (with the engine running, observed and tuned while riding), and will accommodate a wide range of adjustability to properly performance tune the A.F.R. for any combination of aftermarket parts. The R&D Powershot will add horsepower, reliability, and adjustability to any electronic fuel injected two or four stroke watercraft engine.

The R&D Kawasaki 250/260 155mm Pro Pitch Solas Impellers are custom Pro Pitch Tuned impellers that meet the performance demands of R&D Performance kits. R&D stocks a complete line of Pro Pitch Impellers that are guaranteed to out perform out of the box Solas impellers. R&D maintains the superior, high-performing polished finish that comes on every Solas impeller. Performance gains include reduced cavitation, increased acceleration and in most cases a 1-2 mph top speed improvement in rough water conditions. R&D hand checks each blades progressive pitch and blade finish, re-pitches each of the impellor blades to “Race Tested” Performance specifications using proprietary custom impeller pitch tooling and gauges. R&D has been blueprinting and re-pitching watercraft impellors for over 30 years. R&D’s impeller “know how” is second to none!
